buckets’ horse to water out now

Buckets have spent the last five years refining a sound that balances explosive rhythm sections with vulnerable songwriting. Their 2021 self-recorded, self titled LP captured the band’s lo-fi immediacy, while the 2023 EP Good Luck Bad Dog explored a more polished studio approach. With Horse To Water, Buckets expand their universe even further, embracing greater instrumental variety, sonic depth, and genre-bending experimentation. Out June 12, 2026

about Horse to Water

Tracks like “Harley” and “Honest” introduce subtle country-leaning melodic elements that complement the band’s indie punk foundation. On “Mabian Hell,” Houghton trades lines with guest vocalist Priscilla Parada on a track that blends twang and distortion into something uniquely Buckets. Meanwhile songs like “Smokey” and “Wishing” highlight the instinctual power of the band’s rhythm section — loud, fuzzy, and unconstrained — while “Jackknife” showcases Sasha Massey’s swirling, shoegaze-leaning guitar work.

Across the record, Buckets push their sound forward without sacrificing the intimacy and vulnerability that have defined their songwriting from the beginning. The result is a record that feels both expansive and deeply personal — the sound of a band growing into its full identity.

Buckets on ‘Horse to Water’

Horse To Water pulls from songs written across several different eras of Buckets. “‘Oh Mamma’ was written soon after our first album came out back in 2021, while songs like Smokey and Wishing have been in our live sets for the last year or so. Tracks like ‘Honest’ and ‘OK’ came together just a week before we entered the studio.”

“Pulling from that wide net of songs was really important to the record. It shows both the new era of Buckets and the consistency of our songwriting and chemistry as a group.”

The band recorded the album with Kyle Biane and Peter Recine at The Market Recording, who produced, engineered, and mixed the project. “They absolutely crushed the mixes on our singles ‘Slipping’ and ‘Naked’ last year, so we knew we wanted to make the full album with them. Their help producing, engineering, and mixing really made the record what it is.”

“Listen to these songs really loud. Buckets forever.”
